The EdTech X Summit began today

Today, the virtual EdTech X Summit began, where the success story of Estonian education as well as Estonian educational technology companies are showcased.

“Schools around the world, including Estonia, are working from the distance due to the spread of COVID-19. Estonia’s transition to distance learning and teaching was smoother as we have emphasized digital solutions in education for years. Our students and teachers were better prepared for the digital transformation and distance learning than schools in many other countries,” said minister Mailis Reps in the session’s opening speech. “Distance learning has not been a success story in every country – thus, in addition to the success in PISA tests, Estonia now is a role model for its smart solutions in distance learning during the COVID-19 crisis.”

Although, according to the original plans, the event was due to take place in London in June, but due to COVID-19 it is being organized virtually. “Virtual summit is a great place to showcase the success story of a digital education nation,” Reps noted and added: “This helps to boost Estonia’s educational export and supports Estonia’s international image as an education nation.”

The session focused on the digital transformation of Estonia’s education – the use of smart solutions to support learning and teaching, the development of digital skills and competences and the integration of cyber security and creativity, but more specifically, how Estonia managed to switch from contact to distance learning with and ease. In addition, the Estonian educational technology companies were presented. The participants in the session included Tanel Keres (eKool), Kadri Tuisk (Clanbeat), Karen Ordones Roosileht (Tutor.id), Kelly Lilles (ALPA Kids), Tõnis Kusmin (99 math) and Kristen Tamm (Futuclass).

Edtechx Summit, which will replace London’s EdTech Week this year, will have more than 50 sessions featuring more than 80 speakers from educational institutions, private sector and public sector.
